The athletes are waiting for the start, brimming with excitement.

A hellishly sporty journeythrough paradise

The Inferno triathlon guides the participants through hell with the most beautiful view – swimming, road biking, mountain biking and running. The athletes compete for victory against
a breathtaking mountain backdrop. In the race, the first place takes second place to the experience.

The legend of the triathlon

Beat «Bidu» Baumgartner – started 25 times, crossed the finish line 25 times. Participating since the first edition, he’s less interested in his ranking and more in the challenge to reach the peak. «The tremendous mountain backdrop, impressive landscapes – it is not always easy but always a real pleasure.» He has passed his passion on to his daughter Leonie. Since her birth – two days before the fifth edition of the competition – she experiences every run up close. 2019 was her first time at the start line.

Back then, at the Schilthorn half marathon

Before the inferno was held for the first time in 1998, the athletes could prove themselves at the Schilthorn marathon. There is one who seems to enjoy the strenuous way particularly: Since 1993, Marcel Dysli has participated for 27 times – and 27 times he has climbed the summit. Despite all the hardships, Dysil expresses his joy: «They were fantastic runs. If snow, rain, bright sun or thick fog – always well organized, always with friendly helpers.»
