Schadau castle was first mentioned in writing in 1348, but the associated park didn’t open to public until 1860. Today, it’s a popular destination for anyone looking for a little oasis of peace and quiet. The castle restaurant serves fine food, a spinney provides pleasant shade, and the meadow is perfect for sunbathing.

Castle magic in the heart of the city
Perched slightly above the old town, the Thun Castle has been the seat of the Thun authority in the 12th century and has since been adapted for various uses over the years. Today, it houses a museum, a conference and training centre, a hotel and a restaurant. The castle offers a splendid view of the green city from above and, from below, is a reminder of the stately times of the past.

Grand Glory
The Spiez Castle grounds feature a garden, inspired by 19th-century landscaping, a terrace with benches facing the lake that invite visitors to linger, a rose garden, created by the society «Schweizerischer Rosenfreunde Regionale Rosengruppe Spiez / Berner Oberland», and a baroque herb garden, through which guided tours are offered as well as a café. The Spiez Castle stands majestically on the lake shore, overlooking the town since the 7th century.

Pearl of the Alps
With striking groups of trees, the iconic Swiss cross made of flowers, and its historic landscape garden, the Oberhofen Castle park is considered one of the most beautiful gardens in the Alpine region. And if the garden alone doesn’t convince, the restaurant Schloss Oberhofen for sure will, especially if you’re a flower lover. There, not only does rose ivy adorn the terrace, the flowers even make their way onto the plate.
Oberhofen Castle opens its doors in May together with the other Thunersee castles.
