The saxophone quartet “Kebyart” from Barcelona follows the motto of this year: building bridges. In the church of Amsoldingen they present a subtle mix of the works from Johann Sebastian Bach and Philip Glass. As they alternate between the two composers, the similarities of the two become evident – despite the difference in centuries and in style which contrast the two. A concert with music developing a meditative pull and evoking the feeling of time standing still.
The libretto and individual musical fragments of Bach’s largely lost St. Mark Passion have survived. For the final concert, the “Bachwochen” invited the composer Gorden Hamilton to write a new St. Mark Passion, based upon the surviving pieces. The result is a composition which overcomes every previous attempt of reconstruction: the composition moves kaleidoscopically between chorales of Bach and contemporary music styles. The work will be premiered by the Swiss Youth Choir under the direction of Nicolas Fink.
